Better Crib Peekaboo

Well we finally lowered her crib. She has been able to sit up and peek over the edge for a while. It's a little freaky when you go into her room in the middle of the night and you see her head poking up. She can pull herself up she just hasn't realized she can do it...so we left the crib on the high setting. Guessing we shouldn't play with fire though.

Such a big girl! She was outgrowing her car seat too. Her legs are so long they are hanging out over the edge. We planned to move her to Cameron's extra car seat because it can be set up to still face backwards. Well, we got it set up and couldn't get it to adjust the straps...decided just to flip her to face the front. She's almost 10 months old so we are really only a couple of months away. Plus, she is so big that she meets the minimum requirement to face forward. She is a much happier baby! Just sits there and kicks her legs and giggles at Cameron.

She's still not really crawling much. Just wants to be a big girl and walk and gets so frustrated! Today we were playing by the stairs and she was quite intrigued. Can't quite figure out how to start climbing them though.

Worn out after a day of playing.

Yes, that's a real snake. ;)

Wearing Daddy's sunglasses.

Why is every baby obsessed with these?

Crib Peek-a-boo & Pulling Up

So now that Melia is able to sit up from laying down and starting to pull herself up (at least to her knees) we know we need to lower her crib. It's only a matter of time and she will be standing up. Well she likes to sit in the crib and lean her face up to look out of the crib.

Laurie has been having fun at nap time because she will put Melia in bed. She will cry for a bit then it gets quiet. She opened the door to peek in and saw half of Melia's little face peeking out. Melia will instantly start laughing. It's turned into a game. It's not the best picture because it's from Laurie's phone, but you get the idea. The second picture we took tonight when she was just up on her knees looking out.

So our catch up is that we finally got a video of her playing peek a boo with her covers in bed. It's usually better than this because she will typically smile & laugh when she pulls the covers off. Tonight she was peeking through the holes in the blanket.

Melia Gives Eskimos

If you know Cameron well enough you know this is a house that gives a lot of eskimo kisses. Well, Melia has learned to do it. All you have to do is say "eskimos" and she will lean her head in and put her nose on yours. It really starts though as more of a head butt as she puts her forehead on yours...then touches noses. It's the closest thing we get to a snuggly/lovey dovey baby. She has never been that way!

We have a crawler!!

Melia decided to take her first official crawl on Mother's Day...just before I left for the airport for a work trip! It was really only a couple of "steps" and she stopped. The next couple of days I'm told she wasn't really that interested and seemed like she was just trying to stand up versus crawl. She puts her one little leg under her in front to slide it along and pushes behind her with the other. She isn't crawling fast so is still pretty easy to contain. But she is certainly happier playing on the floor now! We haven't started baby proofing, but I'm sure that will be here soon.

Really wants to be on the move...

We got Melia a walker. She is really at the point where she no longer likes her jumperoo. Right now she just wants to stand/walk. Thought this might help her get more practice and be a little happier. So far it's just so so. She loves it when Cameron pushes her around and plays rough. However, she can only move it backwards right now. Hasn't quite figured out how to work it as she mostly tries to jump in it.

She can stand on her own while holding onto something. She's afraid to move though unless she is holding our hands...hasn't built her confidence yet. Just stands there as still as can be and eventually starts whining until you take her hands.

Still no crawling yet! But she is moving really well. She gets up on her knees...and moves backwards a bit. Usually she just rolls or sits and leans up over her knee and reaches to get what she wants. She is extremely tempermental!! In this video you will see her do her typically grunt while straightening her legs out in frustration. She does this when she's mad...and it seems to be all the time. She also does a lot of push up planking and has recently learned how to get to a sitting position when she's laying on the floor. It's only a matter of time and she will be mobile.
Notice at the end of the video how she sits with her ankles crossed. She does this all the time. I think she's just trying to trick us into thinking she's a little lady!

She has also taken a liking to her swing, which she is almost too big for. After the first picture she was expecting the flash so she kept closing her eyes...thought the second pic was really funny.

And she still loves to walk holding onto our fingers. She is actually moving really fast now! Sometimes almost too fast for her to manage and she wobbles all over. Love those chubby little legs!

April 2012

Just playing catch up on some stuff. First is a photo of Cameron and Melia in the pack and play together. He now likes to climb in there to play with her...a trick he learned from Ava when we were in PA.

Interrupting her dinner. Every time you say "yeah" she starts clapping!

They got some belated Easter baskets from Grandma Donna & Grandpa Malcolm. Melia was pretty interested in chewing on anything she could get her hands on. There were peeps in eggs. One minute she was shaking an egg. The next minute I looked she had a peep hanging out of her mouth. Seemed to really like them. Literally turned my back and she had another...then another. They weren't even anywhere near her so I have no idea how she got a hold of them all. Cameron pulled all the grass out of the baskets and she had a great time rolling in it...and trying to eat it.

Melia's first lollipop. She was going crazy trying to grab Cameron's before this video...even trying to eat the other end of his stick while it was in his mouth.
